The People

The cast and crew of The Iona Passion Play are all volunteers who take time out of their daily lives to rehearse, perform and travel with the Play each year.

Some of the performers do have acting experience however most of the cast comprises men, women and children whose only stage experience is their annual involvement in the Play.

The Play is often a family experience with children, parents and grandparents getting involved.

They come from all walks of life united in their mission to spread the message of Easter.

The Iona Passion Play traditionally has a Chaplain for spiritual guidance.

Our Chaplain leads the cast in prayer at the beginning of each rehearsal and organises the annual Day of Reflection.

Archbishop Franco Brambilla, Apostolic Pro-Nuncio, Canberra ...

"The impact of the presentation of Christ's Passion was very moving.  The crucifixion scene was one of the most reverent and realistic that I have been privileged to view.  The audience sat as though they had been transported back in time to Jerusalem."

"He went a little further on, threw himself on the ground, and prayed that, if possible, he might not have to go through that time of suffering."
